Small Set, Big Impact: 3 Mini Party Scenes

How I create a variety of parties in my studio

Photographing party products is such a joy for me. Styling parties is something I have been doing for about 9 years now, and it is what first got me into product photography. Years ago I loved styling parties so much, I created party guides that taught customers how to curate and style different themed parties. They were so fun for me to put together, and it was through photographing the final styled parties (which were all my own styled shoots) that I realized how much I loved photographing anything in the party space. My love of details was really put to good use, lol!

When creating a game plan for shooting party products, I tend to lean heavily into lifestyle photography (of course, my client plays a role in these decisions too, based off their marketing goals). Creating party sets that match the theme of the party goods is crucial to showcase the party products in the best way, and really help customers envision these products in their life and future parties. Let’s explore some of my most favorite sets, and how I keep up the variety!

Scene 1: Fringe Backdrops and Fun Party Table

Using fringe backdrops to create a totally unique look for a style party is so easy. Thankfully, I have been lucky enough to work with Oh My Darling Party Co in the past and have a few of their backdrops on hand. I love how they provide a fun and colorful vibe. They are the perfect backdrops to shoot party products against, as they provide color, texture, and do not produce any unwanted glare or reflections. Pairing these backdrops with fun and colorful party tables that are loaded with on theme goodies also adds to the overall playful and fun party vibe we have going on in these photos below. It looks like you could just jump into the photo and immediately join the party.

Scene 2: Patterned Paper Backdrops & Garlands

Patterned paper backdrops are something I use a lot when I shoot for my client Celebration Stylist. She creates these large patterned backdrops as apart of her monthly printable collection for just about every holiday and occasion. I get them printed at Staples, usually as a blueprint if I can. They add so much fun to a party scene, and really drive home the theme of the party. I love to pair the backdrops with garlands and bunting. The bunting seen below is also by Celebration Stylist, and of course matches perfectly. I pair her bunting with garlands and fringe that match. This adds layers, and gives the backdrop more substance than it just standing on its own.

Scene 3: Balloon Garlands

Yes, balloon garlands are STILL a popular choice for parties. I know it seems like we have been on the balloon garland train for a while, and thats because, we have! They are so easy to quickly put together for party scenes and really make a big impact. In my photos below, I used a balloon garland to not only serve as decor, but also provide the perfect background for my detail shots, like the photo of the pennant. Balloon garlands are perfect to anchor your party scene, and add in extra on theme touches, like the mylar baseball balloons.

One of the perks of working together on product photos of your party products is that you get all of my party knowledge, along with all my photography knowledge. You will get my balloon garland skills, my party styling skills, my crafty skills, and my printing knowledge (for any of those printable party products you may have). Oh! Did I mention the insane collection of party goods I have to also help us style a complete party ( think backdrops, confetti, and support party decor).
